Saturday, September 27th, 2008On Wednesday, October 29, at 7 p.m., I’ll be at McNally Jackson bookstore, at 52 Prince St. in New York, reading from Whatever It Takes and talking about the Harlem Children’s Zone with Sharon Jarvis, Senior Reference Librarian at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. The evening is hosted by The Desk Set, a group of young librarians and archivists described in the New York Times as “a hipper crowd of shushers.”

Saturday, September 13th, 2008On Tuesday, September 23, at 7:00 p.m., I’ll be reading and speaking at the Books Inc. in Opera Plaza in San Francisco. Leigh Lehman, the executive director of 826 Valencia, will be appearing with me, and we’ll talk about and compare the approaches of 826 and of the Harlem Children’s Zone. Added bonus: there will be wine and cheese, thanks to the kindness of the folks at the San Francisco Writers’ Grotto, who are co-sponsoring the event with 826.
